Events are held on location at Bob Wells Nursery at Sorelle Farms, 975 County Road 2220, Mineola TX, 75773.

Spring Vegetable Gardening

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21st at 10 AM

Get your garden growing food this spring! This beginner-friendly class is designed for East Texas gardeners and covers everything you need to know for successfully growing vegetables in our unique climate. Learn when to plant, what veggies thrive in our East Texas soil, and how to work with unpredictable spring weather.

We’ll cover soil preparation, bed and container options, watering basics, and simple organic pest prevention. You’ll also receive an East Texas-specific planting calendar that we’ve compiled from years of growing our own food, along with practical tips you can use this season–perfect for first-time gardeners or anyone looking to improve their spring harvest. Bring a friend and start growing your own food.

 

Raised Bed Gardening: Building and Maintaining

SATURDAY, MARCH 7th at 10 AM

Gardening in East Texas can be challenging. Some folks have too much sand, while others have heavy clay. If you’re one of the lucky few blessed with sandy loam, you still have to contend with the 46 inches of rain we receive each year. One solution to all these problems is raised bed gardening! It allows you to control the soil your plants grow in while providing excellent drainage.

At this clinic, you’ll learn the ins and outs of building and maintaining a raised bed from gardeners who have been using them for years!

 

Companion Planting to Boost Your Harvest

SATURDAY, MARCH 21st at 10 AM

Do carrots love tomatoes or do they prefer basil? Do squash, beans and corn do better when planted together? And why won’t anything grow under my black walnut tree?

If you’ve ever pondered these questions, join us for this clinic on the art and science of companion planting. We’ll discuss plants that play well with each other and which ones don’t. Learn how you can use plants to attract or repel different insects.

 

Growing Fruit Trees 101

SATURDAY, APRIL 4th at 10 AM

Join us for this informative workshop and learn how to grow your own fruit in your backyard! Learn which fruit trees perform best in Texas, how to select healthy trees, and when and how to plant for long-term success. Ed will cover site selection, soil preparation, watering, pruning basics, fertilization, and common pests and diseases, with tips tailored specifically to Texas gardeners.

Whether you’re planting your first tree or looking to improve production from existing trees, you’ll leave with the knowledge and confidence to get started growing fruit trees.
