Red Champ possesses all of the qualities of a great mayhaw, strong growing disease-free trees, uniform ripening, and very large almost 1-inch size fruit. Excellent deep red fruit makes the best-flavored jellies. Harvest mid to late May. All mayhaw varieties benefit from cross-pollination. Red Champ is an early blooming variety.
