Taxodium ascendens
TREE SIZE: Two-year-old potted tree
USDA HARDINESS ZONES: 5-10
SIZE AT MATURITY: 50-70 feet tall
Cypresses are known for their prominent “knees” and wide trunks, however the Pond Cypress is less likely to have knees. Due to the dry nature of the habitat for the pond cypress, it has developed thicker, fire-resistant bark. It prefers wet, poorly drained and acidic soils. Pond cypress has light green leaves that turn copper red in the fall. It can produce small cones.
